India’s public land holdings are one of government’s most significant tangible assets, whether in the hands of central ministries, state governments, or local bodies. While there is no definitive publicly available inventory of central land holdings, a study of published sources indicates that these holdings are very large and potentially underutilised. The chapters in this edited volume attempt to estimate the value of this land, and recommend how to unlock it.
